Alpages - Fine Swiss Alpine Cheeses

"The world’s finest Swiss alpine cheeses"

Offers a selection of rare, genuine artisanal alpine cheeses. Why “genuine“? Even cheese specialists often refer to any Swiss cheeses as “alpine cheeses“. But in 98% of Alpages.co.ukcases they are wrong: Only 2% of all Swiss cheeses are allowed to be called “alpine“, i.e. made with fresh raw milk, produced only in the summer above 3000ft, directly at the farms and according to principles of organic farming.

Alpine meadows come with hundreds of varieties of flowers, grasses and herbs, hence the distinct “terroir” tastes of the selected cheeses. To enhance the taste, alpine cheeses have to be properly matured. Alpages does just that: The cheese is carefully matured in Alpages’ own cellars for up to two years.

Alpages’ cheeses have won several gold, silver and bronze awards at the 2017 International Cheese Awards, Nantwich, and at the 2017 Global Cheese Awards, Frome.

Alpine cheese is healthy, says the American Heart Association: “Cheese made of milk from cows grazed on alpine pastures has a more favorable fatty acid profile than all other cheese types, its well balanced content of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids can lower the risk of heart attacks by 50%.“

The Alpages selection is exclusively available at alpages.co.uk
