Zurich was ranked the best trainstation of Europe 2023

Not only that, Zurich celebrates 150 years since opening this year

The Consumer Choice Center has evaluated the 50 best train stations in Europe and two Swiss stations are among the top ten. Bern - together with Berlin Central - achieved third place and, as in 2022, Zurich is number one! What makes the train station so special? Zurich's main railway station, was officially opened on 1st of August 1871. Therefore, as of 2024, it is over 150 years old. The station has historical significance as it played a crucial role in connecting various rail lines, transforming Zurich into a major transportation hub.

The station is considered special for several reasons:

1. Architectural Significance Zurich Hauptbahnhof is renowned for its architectural design. The original building, designed by architect Jakob Friedrich Wanner, features a blend of architectural styles, including Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque elements.
